Message and reverse. Some clunk from 1st to 2nd. I have checked the movement at the tire as you state. About 1/2" is what I get seems normal but....... I also checked the rotation movement for the ring and pinion by holding the driveshaft solid in gear and moving the output flange at the differential and measured a very small reasonable rotation. I then checked the 1/2 shafts and determined that the joints are worn (more outer joint than inner joint wear) and that appears to be the cause of the clunk. I will have to replace the 1/2 shafts sometime. For now I use the clutch easy at take off as a work around.

Also the 4 subframe bushings are tight and no leaks. All the differential bushings are also in good shape as well as the motor mounts and the driveshaft center support bearing which I changed along with the transmission rear support mount 8k miles ago. My 92NA has 88k on the clock.
